Won’t Do Us Part

Today is certainly one of those “even death won’t do us part” days, for it is actually the topic for our August 14th devotional in the Jesus Calling series, but even better… it finally is the day I marry a dear, dear woman; María.

Now, God tells over-n-again that He will never leave us, that He is closer to us than a brother, and even in Psalms 48:14, that “For this God is our God for ever and ever: he will be our guide even unto death.” He is ours for all eternity. We can learn so much from our Lord in these vows, promises, and actions… for not only is He the beginning and the end (Alpha and Omega), but He “is was and to come”, as it were. Actually, Revelation 1:8 states it as; “I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.” But, His actions have proven His steadfastness, His loyalty, His love and adoration for us, too.

Our life here on earth has so many variables, and it seems as though we are in constant change, relentlessly winding down in many ways. Broken promises by those around us. This makes it so hard to ‘know’ we can keep our promises, our vows, our commitments… though our intents are so pure, deep, and well grounded. But thankfully, “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.“, as it states in Hebrews 13:8.

In so many ways, He is our guide out on that horizon of our lives. We wander of course, but when we keep our eyes, our heart, our souls earnestly intent on Him, he can guide us home, guide us to His will, guide us on His path. In some ways, it reminds me of the time when Jesus walked out onto the sea and met the disciples who were there in the boat. Peter got out of the boat and was ‘also’ walking on that water, eyes fixed on Jesus… by faith… until he looked at what he was doing… took his eyes off the Lord and his faith turned to disbelief, to fear, to awareness that he should not be able to do this…

We have nothing to fear, because our relationship with the Lord is a very solid foundation, and He is there right by our side. In marriage, it is stated, “…until death do us part”, which is to say until our bodies cease to exist.

At this moment, on this day, I wholly intend to fulfill that promise, to live as unto the Lord with her, to never leave her side, to keep our eyes, our lives, our very spirits fixed on the Lord. He is the Lord, the Almighty, the glorious Savior, and “Won’t Do Us Part”.

I love you, Maria…
